Deogratias Seminar Reflection

1) The most interesting idea from this seminar was that Julius and the radio broadcasters were the ones to blame in the story for the death of the three female Tutsis; Apollinaria, Benina, Vinita. It was interesting to see what others thought I was before the seminar undecided on this because I did not know from the book since I was confused on some things. I then formed the belief its partially both of the twos fault but I think that Julius in the end was the one at fault for the three deaths more than the radio since he was the enforcer.

2) I think that the seminar group I was in had a good seminar. One of the biggest problems our group had was talking over each other. I should have been more patient and perceptive of others, there were times when I got excited and really wanted to say something so I would accidentally interrupt when they paused briefly or I would just keep talking while others were but I wasn’t completely aware of it. I also wish I could have gotten Seth D. to say something he always has really interesting things to say all the times  I have heard him speak. Other than those things I think it went very well we all came to agreements and showed new ideas to others.

"Roots of War" Seminar Reflection

3) When the subject of “if war is instinctual for humans” came up, I didn’t really connect it to anything. Later when I was thinking back over it I made the connection to Sociology which we learned about last year. It helped get me thinking about whether war and violence is purely instinctual in humans and if socialization played a part into how likely a person is to go to war or be violent. I started coming up with questions like; Is someone from a time period when war is happening more or less likely to take part in war?, or how much does our socialization affect the amount war humans have or partake in it?

4) In this seminar I think I was the strongest in communication, which in my opinion is a change for me. I felt like I got to speak a lot more than I have in the past so I got what I had to say out in the open. Though I feel that I could have helped other students participate at one point or another.  I would like to improve on bringing new ideas. I feel like I could try harder to look at the topic in different perspectives to find and bring new ideas into the seminar.
